It's OK to Have a Bad Day

It’s OK to Have a Bad Day

It’s OK to Have a Bad Day

Lately, I’ve been trying some exercises in positivity. I’ve been taking a step back from the things that provoke and antagonise me and have been either moving on or laughing them off. A friend often says that there is positivity around every corner and I believe she is right. More than once I’ve seen it myself recently. Often it is just about looking away froms the negative long enough to see the rest of what’s around you. Last week though had two consecutive days that were just too much and for the first time in a handful of weeks, negativity got the better of me. I felt as bad about this as I did about the things that made me feel this way, but you know what? It is ok to have a bad day. Recognising that isn’t the same as failing to see the positive.

Mental Health

It is no secret that anxiety and stress are a big factor for me and it makes sense that if these are pushed too hard, I’m at risk of falling into depression. I do a lot to fight this but these days, it doesn’t make much at all really – I’m in a good place. However, my triggers do impact me and quite suddenly too; there might even be reasons for that beyond just my mental health. I don’t know. What I do know is that we have zero control over what life throws at us and when, what we can control is how we deal with these issues.

Okay, so when people talk about positivity; some of them, sometimes forget that there are factors that stop you from switching perspective. They also confuse positivity with pretending. Looking to see the light in things is not a case of “fake it ’till you make it“, at least I don’t think so. That’s a house of cards, it will just get blown down with the wind or crumble when the ground shakes.

Overwhelmed

Last week, I got overwhelmed. One day was too much and it knocked me over before I could recover. However, I did. Sure, I had some support from my partner and a few friends but I managed it. The next day, things got too much again but this time; this time I got up quicker! It wore me out, yeah – but my head got back to a positive state much faster. I learned and I grew, that’s the positive take away that I got from it all. It’s a big one.

Bouncing Back

I am loved. In many ways by many people. Look closely and you’ll see you are too. Even if the negativity of your situation blinds you. It is okay to have a bad day, just start over the next. If that one is bad too, start over again. Every sunrise is a new opportunity. The good that came out of these bad moments is that I can see I am growing stronger, the strength of the bonds I have formed and the way my outlook is changing.

It is OK to Have a Bad Day, In Fact it is Good

My mental health and whatever else might get the better of me once in a while, but it doesn’t own me. In doing so it has just shown that I am loved and that I deserve all of the love. Of course, you do too. So, it’s ok to have a bad day, it might just be what you need to see the light all around you.
