Grieving Doesn’t mean Ignoring Feelings (Positive or Negative)
No matter what attitude you take or what you believe, some days are just bigger than you can process. Things happen and you’re forced to make difficult decisions or struggle to find the focus and clarity you need. That’s OK, it’s just one of those things. This is a part of life, a difficult and complicated but vital one. I guess it comes with the overarching human experience. Being happy and being positive doesn’t mean ignoring these feelings; far from it, actually. Grieving is healthy; whether for a loved one or something else lost. It is dwelling after that is not.
The last couple of days have been difficult. My focus hasn’t been there, but both days have seen this reflected in different ways. Both days, have had moments of sadness and moments of happiness.
Whilst it isn’t my place to talk on exactly what I have been dealing with, I suppose I can confirm that it is a loss and not mine alone (rarely is any loss, any one of ours alone). That is difficult, of course it is. As I said, I am not alone. I am both supported and a supporter in this ordeal.
Life is a complicated fusion of good and bad moments, of highs and lows, of triumphs and struggles. But a life well-lived, with a positive outlook takes all of these and turns them into memories and shared experiences. So, I feel sad today, yeah. So much! But, that’s normal.
My advice to anyone else out there facing grief, difficult situations and loss is to live in the moment; feel what you need to feel and do what you need to do to get through. Seek and offer comfort; don’t struggle alone. Most of all though? Don’t lose sight of the good moments past or those little smiles in the present. But, it is OK to feel whatever it is you are feeling.
