Life is Profoundly Ridiculous and Stupid
Lately, I’ve been thinking a great deal about life and reflecting of the reality if of it all. Being incredibly prone to stress and anxiety means that sometimes it can all get too intense and I am often at risk of a good mood being lost to me by an unexpected bill, poor communication or an unanticipated event. I have also discovered that I have the capacity to laugh a lot of it off though, especially given my newly found strength and happiness. What all this has shown me is that however you look at it; life, reality and the universe is profoundly stupid and ridiculous.
Heads Up
Firstly, I’m not saying that life isn’t precious. In no way am I saying that the fact that we’re all here and able to do what we do isn’t amazing, magical or whatever. However, take a step back and look at the situations we are in and the silliness of it all shines through. You should also be aware that realising this and being able to laugh about it is not the same as not taking things seriously. Life is serious. Your worries, concerns and anxieties aren’t jokes and are completely real and should be respected. So, what do I mean?
Ridiculous Things Happen
I was once thinking back on some serious issues only to see a squirrel jump on a bird’s back like it wanted to ride the poor thing. I’ve told an estate agent where I live and what building to look for and been asked if I’m sure. Many readers will have been in the situation where they’re having the worse day possible and the cat falls off a shelf sleeping or the dog just farts out of nowhere. Things like this happen. Silly little funny tthings. These are important to our wellbeing.
To go one step further though, have you been in a scenario where you’re in a conflict so unbelievably bizarre that you can’t get your head around it. Someone has done something unquestionably ethically ‘eww’ but they turn it around or shrug it off? I’d bet you have.
Times like these are when you just need to take a step back, laugh and walk away and if you look at it, they’re everywhere. Sometimes you don’t even notice until time has passed. However, look hard enough and you’ll see old white men telling young women how their bodies work and what they can do with them. You’ll notice millionaires with inherited wealth telling the poor to spend their money better. You might even see the abled telling the disabled how to cope. The stupidity and silliness of these things and the way they are accepted so readily is hilarious if now also tragically sad.
It’s all About Perspective
You cannot control these people or these situations. Neither can you control what the universe throws at you but look closely enough and you might just see its whacky (sometimes dark) sense of humour.
