Poem: The Song that Saved My Life

Posted on 09/09/201921/01/2021 by The Busy Papa

The Song that Saved My Life

Fourteen and desperate to suffer no more,
Punished for failing to ever fit in,
My cuts and bruises still throbbing and sore,
A lifetime unable to fit in my skin.
I stare at the pot and wonder what next,
Pondering non-existence without pain,
To just live has become far too complex,
And this; so much simpler than cutting a vein.
Realisation hits like fists I know so well,
That the pills have now spilled into my hand,
But I hear a friendly musical swell,
And then find comfort in my favourite band.
Jon sung to me clear; we’ll make it I swear.
Ever since then; I’ve been livin’ on a prayer.
