SOCKSHOP – Review and Giveaway #AD

SOCKSHOP – Review and Giveaway #AD

As someone with sensory processing issues, socks can be difficult. They can cause a lot of discomfort and overheating from only a little time wearing. Generally, I’d much rather go without. However, due to more efficient practices; bamboo socks are growing in popularity and among the numerous benefits are that they are softer on the skin, keep feet drier and are naturally antibacterial. What all this means is that, in theory, they handle better under varying temperatures, reduce the risk of odour and are generally more comfortable. So, when an opportunity came up to try out some bamboo socks from SOCKSHOP, I was keen to give them a try. With summer fast ending and autumn around the corner, the extra warmth will be handy if they work for me in a sensory sense.

About SOCKSHOP

The founding concept of SOCKSHOP was that socks should be as easily available as newspapers. Established in 1983, the brand positioned themselves on streets, train stations, airports, and other locations with a high flow of passers-by. It very much seems like they were committed to that original purpose.

Based in Bolton mill, the company now stocks over 70 brands across more than 240 countries worldwide. They also stock accessories, tights, and underwear alongside their numerous ranges of socks. What’s more is that SOCKSHOP are also a part of the Ethical Trading Initiative too; so, a perfect fit for those keen to follow ethical traders.

Range

SOCKSHOP World Socks

There is no shortage of socks to choose from. The site allows you to search by style, brand, colour, material, feature and even whether or not they are British made. Each of these options has a lot to choose from. However, due to them being more eco-friendly and me struggling with traditional socks; I focused on their bamboo selection.

The men’s and ladies’ sections each had a little under 200 to choose from. Both in a variety of shapes and styles. So, the Bamboo ranges don’t feel limited in any way, in fact, they very much feel fully featured and promoted on the store’s line-up. As an eco-conscious shopper this brings me great joy and from a sensory perspective, it means that I don’t need to worry if I need more.

My Selection

Sockshop

I chose 4 sets of socks to try out. Two multi-packs of trainer socks and two individual, longer, designed types. So, eight pairs of socks in total.

Here are my thoughts:

3 PAIR BAMBOO TRAINER SOCKS WITH SMOOTH TOE SEAMS MEN’S – SOCKSHOP

£6.99

Given that I naturally sweat and feel uncomfortable in socks. I opted for this style due to their regular thickness and uninstructive design. Given that they are three times as absorbent as cotton and light to wear; it’s socks like these that would do most of the heavy lifting day-to-day.

To look at they are pleasant and well put together, the handlinked smooth seam toe is easy to see and appreciate.

The socks fit well (I bought size 6-11, as am a size 9) and were wonderfully comfortable to wear.

3 PAIR BAMBOO TRAINER SOCKS MEN’S – GLENMUIR

£8.99

SOCKSHOP Trainer Socks

As I was unsure what to expect of bamboo socks, I opted for a second pair of the same style from a different brand. This pair was advertised with freshness in mind, due to their low ankle, trainer sock design and bamboo material. Given that Glenmuir is popular brand known for golf apparel, they felt like a good alternative choice.

Once again, I found the design pleasingly minimalistic and not overstimulating. Perfect for everyday wear. The socks were well made and extremely comfortable, even when wearing on busy days.

1 PAIR SAVE OUR BEES FAIR TRADE BAMBOO SOCKS UNISEX – SHARED EARTH

£5.99

SOCKSHOP Bee Socks

I love bees. Bees are cute. Bees deserve and need all of the love right now. I chose this unisex, honeycomb pattern because I was drawn to the design, the emphasis on how important it is saving our planet and fact that they are fair trade.

For me, a pair of socks like this would not be everyday wear. They’d be something I’d whip out on a less active and cooler day. The design is gorgeous though and the design is really cool.

I found that once on and stretched a bit, the socks were very comfortable but as a man with wider feet, found they needed a couple of wears or a very little bit of stretching though.

1 PAIR GLOBETROTTER FAIR TRADE BAMBOO SOCKS UNISEX – SHARED EARTH

£5.99

SOCKSHOP World Socks

Like the bee print, chosen for the funky design and pro-Earth message. Very pleasing to look at, comfortable but similar to the other Shared Earth socks; a little bit of stretching was needed for wider feet. That happened naturally after to wears though and have sat perfectly since.

Final Thoughts

I am very impressed with SOCKSHOP and their selection. As someone with sensory issues, I have also found that bamboo socks are much better than cotton. I would recommend that anyone with similar issues, also try them and see if they’re a more comfortable alternative.
