5 Reasons to Visit London

5 Reasons to Visit London

Sometimes, when at home and with limited options available; it’s nice to think about where your next trip might be. Whether national or international there are a wide array of options out there. One of my absolute favourite places to go though is London. Given my social anxiety, that’s probably shocking, it is for me too, that isn’t to say it isn’t affecting (it is) or that I’d want to visit all of the time. However, there is something there for everyone and whatever your walk of life or interest there is no shortage of reasons to go visit London.

The Thames

If you walk along the Thames long enough, you’ll come across all sorts of shops, architecture and performers. Not only is the river iconic, it is a cool way to experience London culture.

The History

Of course, the city is known for its history and there are no shortage of historical attractions around London. Big Ben, The National Gallery, The Natural History Museum, Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral, St James’s Park, the Tower of London and the list goes on. Some are even free!

The Music Scene

Unsurprisingly, there are the behemoths like the O2, Wembley, Roundhouse and Alexandra Palace which unite millions in their love of music every year but then there are the smaller venues neatly tucked behind the sides streets. The Café Oto’s, Windmills and Lexington’s of the town. Whatever you like to jam out to, there’s a pub (or hall) for that.

The Markets

So, OK – there are all kinds of flagship stores and shopping options in London. If fashion or style is your thing, they’ve got that covered. More than covered. The thing is, a lot (not all) of that comes with a whiff of pro-consumerism or fast fashion mentality (even if not actually fashion products).

If you’re looking for something cultural and locally sourced then there are some amazing options in the markets scattered about town. What makes them really worth the visit though is the unique and amazing atmosphere surrounding them. Whilst naturally there are stores with a strong green vibe and markets that clearly are not ethically sourced; you can usually get a good sense of what is what by browsing stalls.

The West End

Known for its theatres, The West End is the shopping and entertainment hub of the city. It’s not hyperbole to say that this is a world-class cultural hotspot. So, whether you are looking for a show, fine dining or to treat yourself; this is a fantastic reason to visit in itself.

The Busy Papa

Also known as Aaron, The Busy Papa focuses on lifestyle, parenting and personal wellbeing content. He has two decades experience in creative writing (including several published poems) and strongly dislikes (though tolerates) tomatoes.

I was going to wait til the boys were a bit older to go to London-but it is on my list of things to do when social distancing has gone.
