What Is Ethical Living and How to Start?
What Is Ethical Living?
The ethical living philosophy is on the rise across all generations. Given the environment and the state of certain politics, this is unsurprising. The idea behind ethical living is navigating daily life taking ethical and moral considerations. It means thinking about the environment, consumerism, sustainability, human rights and animal welfare (among other things).
Ethical living isn’t for everyone and it isn’t about getting everything right all the time. The reality is that most of us take the attitude that a million people making a small imperfect change is much more effective than a few of us getting it all spot on.
A branching from the sustainable living movement, living ethically can start as simply as being mindful about your waste, changing your grocery supplier or ditching the meat. It doesn’t need to be all these things but could become all of them and more. The point is, it’s a mindset and a different kind of mindfulness for the world around us.
How to Get Start Ethical Living?
It’s my opinion that small incremental changes make it less likely you’ll rebound against a lifestyle change. This is how I approach positive thinking. One negative fixation at a time. When it comes to ethical living changes, I reckon most people are set in their ways. They have routines, habits and conveniences they think they can’t live without. This is where the danger is in making a change, feeling like you are losing something rather than gaining.
Small changes; one issue at a time are the way to go then. But, where do you start?

How to Go Meat Free by Stepfanie Romine
Broken down by the health benefits, financial benefits and various sources and solutions to make the transition; Stepfanie Romine does a fantastic job in this reference book.
Not only does the book contain awesome advice for making the change but it also handily helps with the next steps too; such as what books and websites to read to continue the journey further.
How to Go Plastic Free by Caroline Jones
Split by where to start, health and dining considerations, home life, upcycling projects and responsible recycling; Caroline Jones covers everything you need to know to ditch that pesky plastic from your life. It makes very few assumptions about what you know and where you are in the process.
How to Go Waste Free by Caroline Jones
Without a doubt, my personal favourite of the three. What I love is the practical and diverse tips for making simple but effective changes.
This book covers adopting zero waste practices, living a zero-waste lifestyle and then a dedicated section to cooking. There are even a few recipes and swaps.

Lovely book bundle, fab giveaway. I’d really like to see how I can have more of a positive impact so would love to win.
It’s so important to educate ourselves about how to live ethically and these books look really informative! I am a vegetarian, so the eating less meat book particularly appeals to me 🙂
Great selection of books.
We all want to do our bit but it can seem rather overwhelming knowing where to even start.
Thank you for sharing x
Great advice, its really important that people educate themselves to be able to make the right decision for them.
Since going vegan I have become so much more aware of the food and agricultural impact on our planet. I am trying to make changes wherever I can and I hope that will filter out and eventually become the norm – Plastic toothbrushes make me cring now since I read that every toothbrush I have ever owned still exist somewhere!
These look like a great selection of books. We are trying to go more meat-free and have more veggie meals and definitely looking at more waste-free too. A learning curve!
I think the books would be useful for reducing my carbon footprint
A really helpful set of books. Your point about many people thinking that making changes means that they are losing something is an important one. Mindsets are, however, changing slowly which is good news.
I’d love this as Im not sure I could go rubbish free
Lovely books, we are all getting far more aware of the environmental impact that we have now. Would be great to know more
I love the ideas!

What a fab giveaway! As a family we have just decided to try going vegetarian and have gradually tried to do things to reduce our plastic use but honestly it doesn’t feel like we are doing enough to more eco friendly. I will have a look at purchasing these books if I am not the lucky winner!

These would be great!
I don’t think many people are fully aware of environmental impacts we have
Great Idea, I really need advice on how to recycle more and help save the environment.
Best of luck!
We’ve started to make little changes. Our milk is now being delivered in reusable glass bottles, reducing single use plastic and fuel than large scale supermarket milk. It’s not a big change but it’s a manageable one!
That is definitely the best place to start. Take it simple and don’t get overwhelmed.
These would be a great help for inspiration on how to make more changes
Fab prize
Oh brill I’m really intruiged to read both the how to go waste and plastic free books!
Being more mindful of how much and the nature of what our house consumes is on the radar for 2020 – its a bit overwhelming if you think too much about it so these books would be a beneficial read!
Great books to make sure we’re living right to keep down our footprint!
These books sou d great. Would read the plastic one first
Sound very interesting books, I am vegan but it’s very hard indeed to avoid plastic and not make waste so would be fascinated by those two and interested in the advice in the diet book in case missing anything!
