My Five Year Old Reviews Pokémon The Movie: The Power of Us

My son and I have a shared love of the Pokémon franchise.

This comes from me growing up with the franchise and him taking an interest in the colourful game cartridge cases and game guides scattered about my shelves. The real hook the eldest Papalite was when I put on the anime for him and he saw the colourful animals and monsters brought to life for the first time; since we’ve shared adventures on the TV, in drawing together and through the numerous videogame entries.

It was at his insistence that we saw I Choose You and then The Power of Us at the cinema. I have no doubt we’ll see the upcoming Detective Pikachu too!

What movie did we go see?

Pokémon The Power of Us.

Pokémon: The Power of One

What was the movie about?

Erm… A fire, some smoke. Some Pokémon had to be saved, there was a mythical Pokémon.

There were girls.

What else happened?

I ate Popcorn and Magic Stars, the popcorn was dry. I farted this many times.

*puts ten fingers up*

I meant the movie…

Some people got saved. There were girls. One girl was sad sometimes. One did some running.

Did you like it?

Yeah. Lots.

What was your favourite part?

Seeing the Pokémon.

Who do you think would like this movie?

Japan people…

Err… maybe, people who enjoy Pokémon.

Do you recommend the movie to people who don’t like Pokémon?

No!

They would find it scary or boring. There were mummies on their phone.

With this final question, he lost interest and proceeded to go through some of his cards to match characters he’d seen in the movie. Between going to see the film and writing this post, my son has talked about the movie non-stop. This is a sign that the movie has stuck with him (he has also mentioned the inclusion of girls regularly each time too).
