Taking Time to Heal Your Self-Esteem

Taking Time to Heal Your Self-Esteem

Everyone contains within; a set of experiences, beliefs and prejudices. All of which inform and misinform each other, this in turn helps us develop a unique outlook on the world with bespoke methodologies for handling it. These components are core to our personalities, which in turn act as a compass for how we navigate the world. Honestly, I spent two decades certain that my compass was broken, that I was so out of sync with every other person’s journey that something was obviously wrong with who I am and how I came to be. I no longer believe that. I live a life where empathy, wellness, passion and understanding are valued above even above established cultural norms. This is right for me but what is right for you might be different. Whatever is or isn’t right though, self-esteem is important and so is taking the time to heal it.

It is my experience negative experiences form anxieties that erode at your sense of self-esteem. These are usually seeds planted externally that grow into something much more significant internally. Weeds, if you will. Like weeds, you have a few limited options. You can wait it out, seasons change, and they may fade (they may also return). An option is to learn to live with them, some believe weeds give character. Or you can de-weed. In other words, you can take time to heal and regenerate your self-esteem. It is my experience that learning to live with self-doubt and lowered self-worth develops a strong sense of empathy, but it becomes unmanageable and is extremely unhealthy. Don’t live in suffering, move forward.

What does this mean though, healing your sense-of-self?

It means not judging yourself or comparing yourself to others. What you see another person as, is not the complete picture after all. Equally, it means forgiving yourself for getting things wrong sometimes and that some situations are impossible and without a flawless solution. It means being mindful, open to positivity and not just forgiving yourself but accepting and embracing it. Understanding that it is cool to be you.

In practicing self-love, distancing yourself from toxicity and following your heart and gut what you ultimately end up doing is discovering that you are perfect, because you are you. Someone worthy of success on your terms and deserving of actual true love.

So, take the time regularly to heal your self-esteem; doing so will enable you to face the world with an armour impenetrable to snide remarks, baseless gossip, vane differences and ignorant judgement. Whilst also helping you move past those things that just happen, are no-one’s fault and you can’t help but analyse and put yourself in a position of fault. Being in a better place and understanding your actual self-worth will make you a titan of managing life’s little challenges and moving on when a situation is impossible and you have done your absolute best to deal with it, with the context and tools you have available.
