Just about every parent has opinions on the little piglet and her family. Whether they love her, take issue with the titular character’s behavior, the way Daddy pig is presented and treated or the over-commercialisation of the brand; the hate out there is real. However, whatever your stance; there is no denying that the puddle-loving piggie is popular with children the world over. The thing though, sometimes our children’s tastes and interests can take a front seat to our own and even make it difficult to enforce our own ethical or personal stances. So, whether for a birthday, Christmas or something else. I hope my (mostly) plastic free Peppa Pig gift guide helps you find the perfect present for your little piggies.
Much to my shame; this gift guide is not specifically for ethical products. Although it might contain some (I hope most). Truthfully, Peppa Pig options are limited on this front but I do try to encourage wooden toys, furniture that makes difficult times of the day easier and toys that keep small hands and feet busy.
Fun New (albeit Peppa Pig) Features for the Home
The prime age range for Peppa fandom is the toddler stage. Parents universally agree that feeding time is a battle at this age. Having the right cutlery is as important as having the right food (not that any food is ever right, of course). Naturally, there are any number of plastic options out there which is why this choice stands out.
A perfect compliment to the above dinner set. I recommend this for all the same reasons as I do the dinner set, in fact it’s a shame that it isn’t included with it to be honest. However, it is what it is. Little cups like this are always a nice addition to your lineup of utensils though as children like to simultaneously like to feel grown up and not. I’d say this achieves that.
Peppa Pig Toddler Bed with Underbed Storage, Wood
After dinnertime, the next big minefield when it comes to young kids is bedtime. Some get lucky, sure. However, more parents than not have some truly horrifying stories about getting their kids to sleep each night during this period. The reason? Well, there are many and some are complicated and beyond my scope to comment on or analyse. One thing that might help though is special, personalised space with characters they love and adore. I said might.
Having books around is a great thing for children. You don’t need to fill this up with Peppa Pig stories (although I’m sure a couple will be appreciated) but actually having dedicated space for their books where they can see them, interact with them and do their own thing helps to foster a positive relationship with books from a young age. Even before children can read, they begin to make associations with the pictures on the page and recurring words.

My experience is that almost irreverent of brand, it is much easier to find wooden toys for younger children than older. That isn’t to say that there aren’t options just that it requires less mainstream sources. At this age though, there are plenty of choices (although Peppa Pig doesn’t have as many as I would hope).
Unsurprisingly; the issues come down to hybrid toys combining wood and plastic, as well as where they are sourced and the excessive packaging.
Peppa Pig Pull and Play
A very simple toy for 18 months and over. The idea is that the image is extended and offers a pleasant surprise for curious minds.
My First Peppa Pig Activity Toy
A more advanced sensory pleaser than the pull and play. With a squeaker, crinkly sounds and a peek a boo mirror, the activity toy is aimed to engage your baby’s senses. It also plays music from the TV show, oinks and is available in a George toy.
2 Years+
I guess it isn’t all that shocking that a writer, who also likes to draw and create values imaginative play over other things. The thing is; magnetic character play is a great way for creative minds to start playing pretend and making their own little narratives.
The shape sorter is one of the most well known baby/toddler toys out there; perhaps second only to the rattle. So, it shouldn’t be all that surprising that Peppa Pig also has one!
Night Creatures: A Lift-the-Flap Book
Books are great, I love books. It goes without saying that there are multiple lift-the-flap hardback book options available out there for Peppa Pig. However, finding ones that take a curious and positive look at the natural world are a little rarer.
3 Years+
Playhouses foster imaginative play and creative storytelling; for both boys and girls. Personally, I wouldn’t lean on a character playhouse to do this and I really dislike the fact that the wooden house is accompanied by plastic accessories and figures. To be honest, I did question whether to include this item in the Peppa Pig mostly plastic free gift guide. However, if the adventures your little ones want to create, exist in the world of Peppa Pig; this is certainly a good option for that.
This colourful matching card game is full of familiar Peppa Pig characters; it can be customised to suit different ages and abilities plus is a wonderful way of helping your kids build their memory and analytical skills.
Following on from what was said about the playhouse; imaginative and story crafting types of play do a world of good for young minds. If you are looking to encourage this within the world of Peppa Pig but don’t want to deal with plastic figures or are on a budget; finger puppets are a lot of fun. They are great for putting on little shows too.
Final Thoughts
Finding Peppa Pig products that are plastic free can be quite the problem, also, in compiling this gift guide I’ve found it a genuine challenge to find items that I can be sure are ethically produced. In short, I haven’t. If you’re looking for more ethically sourced products, my suggestion (although not officially licensed) is to look for something custom or bespoke. A good starting point might be Etsy.
