Don’t look for an opportunity or a date to refocus yourself

Don’t Look for an Opportunity or a Date to Refocus Yourself

I’ve been thinking, people put a lot of focus on new year and new beginnings. They pile on a bunch of resolutions and aspirations for the year and set themselves massive goals. No doubt that sometimes they succeed and that this all works out, but that isn’t the right way to go about things. At least, I don’t think so. The right time to let go of your baggage and make a change for the better is always now and unless you’re reading this on New Years Day then now is not then. Don’t look for an opportunity or a date to refocus yourself, just do it (in the words of Nike).

Today is a new day…

All your yesterdays still happened and perhaps as you wake, you can still feel the struggles of them weighing on you. I get that. However, as someone forged in struggles who has weathered turbulence; I can tell you that darkness is always followed by light. A bad day, week or year does not make a bad life and by putting aside the bad you open yourself to the good. Something that seemed like your worst nightmare yesterday could be your strength today in a new light. You then have an opportunity to embrace that and share that with those who you love.

Your struggles and anxieties don’t just disappear with the rising sun…

Anxiety, self-confidence and stress have been the bread and butter of my existence for as long as I can remember. We don’t have control over these things and your triggers are what they are.

However, what was once complete darkness becomes nothing more than shadow in the light of day. So, with it comes the opportunity to deal with things positively and see things clearly. This is the time to set goals and make changes. With an optimistic outlook and clear vision. Solve your problems and make your changes in small iterations, starting over the next day if you need. Finally, don’t do it alone. I’m lucky to be loved the way I am and maybe you’re lucky too. Perhaps you have family, friends or a partner who can help you. If not, there are support groups and communities out there but whatever help you need, it exists.

Stay calm. Be hopeful and find your positivity. If you don’t have it, turn to the person who has your back and share some of theirs. Most of all, look to a new day as new hope and you know what? You might just find that and more.
